The novelist Henry James said the two loveliest words in the English language were summer afternoon – and we have to say, we’re with him on that one. High summer is such a perfect time of year, especially with the heatwave we’ve been having lately. This week we’ve been busy making elderflower vodka down on the farm as the elderflowers are in full frothy bloom. It mixes fantastically with champagne and makes a delicious summer cocktail, and is just summertime in a glass when the sun goes down.

The blackcurrants for our Godminster blackcurrant vodka are about three weeks away now and we’re hoping all this sunshine will make them juicy and plump and ripe for the picking. If the old St Swithun’s saying is anything to go by we should be in for 40 days of sunshine – now that’s something to raise your glass to!
