Press release: Godminster expands its reach across the south

We’re delighted to announce that our Mature Organic Prepack and our Mature Organic Prepack with Black Pepper can be found in Souther Co-ops! Here’s our full press release below…

More people now have the chance to tuck in to two organic Somerset cheeses as they have been selected by a regional co-operative to be stocked in more than 20 stores.

The two cheeses created by Godminster, based in Bruton, will now feature in Southern Co-op’s Local Flavours range which celebrates some of the best regional produce across the south of England.

Richard Hollingbery, who bought Godminster Farm in 1993, has an environmentally friendly and ethical approach to farming which led to the farm being certified as organic in 1999.

Richard’s mantra is ‘nature repays those who treat her kindly’ and his goal is to create a self-sustaining environment where nature can regenerate and flourish.

Matt Elliott, Retail Buying & Services Manager who looks after Local Flavours at Southern Co-op, said: “The commitment to sustainability by Richard and his team is commendable and echoes our own work as a regional co-operative – it is something we strive for and encourage people to consider when doing their shopping.

“With Christmas fast approaching, we hope that lots of people take the opportunity to sample this award winning cheese and we hope love it just as much as we do.”

The two cheeses being added to the Local Flavours range are the Godminster Mature Organic Cheddar which is an intensely creamy flavour and rich enough to be enjoyed alone on a cheeseboard, and Godminster Mature Organic Cheddar with Black Pepper, which offers a powerful twist.

It will be stocked in 23 Southern Co-op stores including branches in Mere, Sturmininster, and Bradford on Avon.

Jessica Kimber-Holloway, Godminster’s Commercial and Operations Director, said: “This new listing in Southern Co-op means the world to us, especially so soon following being awarded the UK’s best large organic farm at the BOOM Awards. Here at Godminster we like to think that all the love and care we put into our farm is repaid in kind, making award-winning cheese for everyone to enjoy.

“The cows at Godminster Farm are raised organically and produce a deliciously creamy milk that is perfect for cheesemaking. Our sustainable approach to farming is a major contributor to the distinctive taste of our award-winning Godminster cheese and we hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoy making them. Thank you Southern Co-op for including us in your fantastic range!”
