Godminster Wins Gold At the World Cheese Awards 2018
The World Cheese Awards
We write The Global Cheese Awards in pen in our diaries every year. They take place just up the road from us at the West Woodlands Showground, Frome. It is one of the oldest and most respected industry events in the UK and draws entries from across the world.
Godminster’s World Cheese Awards
This year, it was another golden weekend for Godminster showing just how broad the appeal is of the Vintage Organic Cheddar, with a trio of top awards.
The first Gold award was for Export Cheese, a testament to the growing success of Godminster overseas, in Europe but also in Africa and Asia too. We’re not new to exporting, but the volumes are growing quickly which is great news for cheese lovers overseas as we reach more countries.
At the end of last year, Jessica Chavant joined our team in the new position of International Sales Manager, tasked with driving the export side of the business. And what a year so far! Godminster’s Vintage Organic Cheddar is now available to purchase in 26 countries around the world, and new for 2018 are countries like Mexico and South Africa.
Our second Gold of the weekend came in the Children’s Choice category. In this category, a group of five under 10s choose their favourite cheese! Showing that age is no barrier to a love of good cheese. The World Cheese Awards team then shows the children how to taste the cheese and what to look for. Also, what makes the cheeses different? They then rated each entry out of a possible ten points based on their personal preference. We were delighted to learn that Godminster was a clear favourite amongst the judges!
All in all, it’s an exciting time for Godminster! We’re hugely proud of our successes at the Global Cheese Awards, as we always are with any recognition, and these latest titles show that Godminster is a brand with appeal to an audience that is growing all the time.
And finally…
Finally, on Saturday afternoon, Celebrity Chef Dean Edwards chose Godminster as his choice. Dean is famous for his appearances on Lorraine and This Morning. We’ve been using Vintage Organic Cheddar as an ingredient in a whole host of recipes. (You’ll see some of our favourites here) It’s great to have the affirmation from a professional chef that our cheddar really does bring something extra to the recipe.
And with barely enough time for us to catch our breath after the Globals, we’ve learned that the Vintage Organic Cheddar has been announced as a finalist in the 2018 Great British Cheese Awards. It is one of five artisan cheeses selected in the Best Hard Cheese category. It is also nominated in the People’s Choice category. Judging takes place next month with the awards ceremony at Somerset House in London on 17th October.
So thank you. As all the great winners say in their speeches, we couldn’t have done it without you!
