Godminster Loves… English Wine Week!

English Wine Week kicked off on the 20th June this year and what better way to celebrate than with some fantastic cheese and wine pairings? Earlier this Summer we asked James from Hawkins Bros Fine English Wines to tell us his favourite wines to match with the Godminster range…

Godminster Vintage Organic Cheddar Collection

Vintage Organic Cheddar & Litmus Element 20 2014

James says… “With the Vintage Organic Cheddar, we chose Litmus Element 20 2014, a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. It is a complex, mature, rich full-bodied wine which brings out the mellow creaminess of the cheese and the fruitiness of the wine. Litmus Wines are based in Dorking, Surrey. The winemakers are John Worontschak and Matthieu Elszinger.

Oak-Smoked Vintage Organic Cheddar & Winbirri Inscription 2016

James says… With the Oak-Smoked Cheddar, we thought the Winbirri Inscription 2016 was a good match. It’s a blend of Rondo, Regent and Dornfelder, matured in American oak to give a wine that is smooth and round on the palate, with silky yet firm tannins and a pleasing dryness which matches the smokey flavour well. Winbirri Vineyard is in Surlingham, Norfolk and the wine is made by the owner Lee Dyer.”

Black Truffle Vintage Organic Cheddar & Albourne Estate Pinot Noir 2018

James says… “With the Black Truffle Cheddar, we liked the Albourne Estate Pinot Noir 2018. Made with 100% Pinot Noir matured in new and old French oak, we felt the lightness and the subtle savoury notes in this delightful wine complemented the earthy notes of the truffle in the cheese very well. The wine is made by Alison Nightingale and Matt Brass in Albourne, Sussex.”
