Come rain or shine

Despite the rain (well, what else would you expect on a bank holiday?!) we still had a great time at Mells Daffodil Festival on Monday. The annual festival held in the historic village of Mells, near Frome, was opened by Danny Goffey from the band Supergrass and his wife Pearl Lowe, who both live locally.  Lots of people turned out to see the live bands, fun fair, and food stands – including Godminster, of course.

There was a fantastic reaction to our cheese and we received great feedback both on the day and on Twitter afterward – which made us all smile on our return to work this week.  Despite the fact that we almost lost a gazebo in the wind, we will definitely be there next year – and hopefully, we can bring the sunshine!

The constant sun and showers may have played havoc with Easter weekend activities but they are absolutely perfect conditions for the farm, which means we can get the most out of the soil in the coming months. As well as the rain, we’ve also seen lots of garden birds returning to the farm. Blue tits, sparrows and house martins are all busily assembling their nesting materials. Of course, this isn’t just happening on the farm. I have a birdhouse outside my bathroom window and my children have spent many an hour just watching the comings and goings through the window – one of life’s simple pleasures.

Jess.
